Job Description The Medical Director of Infectious Disease (MDID) is accountable for providing medical and scientific oversight for global Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) for Olympus and will be responsible for providing leadership for medical safety, infectious disease issues across all therapeutic solutions and endo-surgical businesses. Serving as a single point of accountability for the design, execution, monitoring, delivery, and reporting of all medical infection prevention activities for Olympus the MDID will work collaboratively with the Chief Medical Safety Officer and the Global Leader of IPC. The MDID will partner across a matrixed environment to architect the globally connected infection prevention medical strategy across all therapeutic areas and synthesize alignment of infection prevention on a peer-to-peer physician/surgeon basis, regardless of medical/surgical specialty, of those we serve. The incumbent will report directly to the Chief Medical Safety Officer and will collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer, the SVP of Medical & Clinical Affairs, as well as colleagues from Quality Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, R&D, and serve as an internal subject matter expert on Infectious Disease for Olympus. In addition to supporting all IPC level activities, the MDID will participate in program level activities including authoring/reviewing infection prevention safety and efficacy summaries, clinical white papers, coordinating thought leadership with outside experts, societies, as well as global public health agencies and Non-Governmental Organizations. The MDID will contribute to new product development, design controls, risk management plans and reports, periodic safety updates and clinical sections of product labels. In addition to work on specific IPC activities the IDMD will participate in standing committees, review post market surveillance trends, perform due diligence reviews, and provide assistance to new business development on emerging market opportunities as well as contribute to the target product profile for new product development. Job Duties Provide infectious disease expertise and objective infection prevention and control oversight to ensure patient safety throughout the product lifecycle across Olympus, including product development processes, risk management, clinical trials, post-market safety surveillance, and field actions. Responsible for strategic decision making across Olympus regarding all issues and processes pertaining to Infectious Disease within Infection Prevention and Control. Serve as the Infection Prevention & Control Medical Leader representative at key business unit level management review meetings, staff meetings, and global meetings. Collaborate with Chief Medical Safety Officer and other medical safety leaders within Medical and Scientific Affairs to share best practices and ensure consistent patient safety for all infection prevention matters. Review and provide infectious disease input and oversight for all safety risk/benefit assessments and field action assessments pertaining to the business. Provide infectious disease review and assessment of critical safety issues impacting the business and recommend action, as needed. Serve as an internal infectious disease clinical resource and collaborate with the global infection prevention & control teams to provide input on difficult or unclear issues. Interact with executive management concerning significant patient safety issues involving infectious disease. Encourage ethical decision-making, innovative and strategic thinking on infection prevention medical/clinical practice; develops processes and supporting key performance indicators to continuously improve business effectiveness and simplification; promotes and manages change to enhance organizational capabilities. Qualifications:
Medical Degree (MD or DO or equivalent). Successful completion of internal medicine post-graduate training with active board certification in the medical specialty of infectious diseases, with direct patient care experience. Domestic and international travel 20%, including weekend and evening travel as needed. Minimum of 3 years of direct patient care experience beyond residency. Minimum of 8 years of relevant clinical infectious disease experience with patient safety, including medical device and pharmaceutical experience. PREFERRED
Qualifications:
Preferred relevant infectious disease advanced degrees such as MPH, MS Epidemiology, or equivalent. Previous work experience in the World Health Organization, US Public Health Service (Center for Disease Control), Local, Regional, or State Public Health Department is highly desired. Demonstrated leadership in a clinical setting or has previously led a team of clinical or patient care professionals.
Salary Range:
$200K -- $250K
